Excessive Sweating

excessive-sweatingExcessive sweating of the armpits, palms or soles is a distressing complaint and the inconvenience caused by it can have a negative impact on the quality of life. A non-surgical option to treat excessive sweating is by injecting Botox to temporarily block the activity of sweat glands, thus decreasing sweating. In 2004, FDA approved BOTOX for the treatment of excessive underarm sweating.

When should I consider treatment ?

When severe sweating gets in the way of certain daily activities and antiperspirants haven’t worked, you may be a candidate for Botox treatment. For example, you may be embarrassed by the constant sweat stains under your arms or may need to change clothes during the day.

How does Botox reduce sweating ?

Botox blocks the chemical messenger that is responsible for “turning on” the body’s sweat glands, thus reduces sweating at the treated area.

How is the procedure like ?

BOTOX is injected to the affected area through a very fine needle and after application of topical anaesthetic cream. The actual procedure takes only 15 minutes. The patient should notice a significant reduction in sweating at the treated areas within 4 weeks.

How long can results last ?

On average, the effects last 6 months after which a repeat procedure will be needed if necessary.
