What are the common causes of hair loss ?

Hair loss can be caused by a variety of conditions. Possible causes for hair loss include female or male pattern hair loss, Alopecia Areata, Telogen Effluvium (which occurs after childbirth, physical and emotional stress) , hormonal changes , chronic illness and medication.

What shall I do when I have abnormal hair loss ?

If you feel your hair loss is excessive, you should consult a doctor to find the cause of the hair loss and to treat any underlying medical condition.

What is Male or Female Pattern Hair Loss ?

Also known as androgenetic alopecia, this condition is the most common cause of hair loss. Male pattern baldness can start as early as during the teenage years and affects more than 50 percent of men over age 50. The hairline begins to recede above the temples to form a characteristic “M” shape and thins at the crown. In female patients, hair thinning is noticed predominantly over the top and sides of the head, commonly after menopause.

What are proven therapies for treatment of hair loss ?

  • Prescription Medication – Finasteride can be prescribed to control male pattern hair loss. The medication is FDA approved to block formation of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) hormone, thus inhibit the shrinking of hair follicles. Another FDA approved medication to treat both male and female pattern hair loss is topical Minoxidil. Minoxidil reactivates your hair’s natural growth cycle by reinvigorating hair follicles that are shrunken due to hereditary hair loss.
  • Hair Restoration Programme – For an extra boost, the programme replaces vitamins and nutrients directly to the scalp to promote hair regrowth. This treatment also promotes blood circulation to the scalp, strenthens hair follicles and increases hair shaft diameter.

What types of hair loss can be treated with Hair Restoration Programme ?

Both male and female pattern baldness and other types of hair loss due to after childbirth, genetics and aging can be improved with Hair Restoration Programme.

How many sessions of treatment are needed ?

Depending on the cause of hair loss, generally at least 6 sessions of treatments performed at two weekly intervals are recommended.

How soon can I see results ?

Hair loss slows and visible hair growth may be seen after the third month of initiating treatment.

Is maintenance treatment needed ?

Depending on the cause of hair loss, maintenance treatments will be recommend for conditions that are progressive and yet to have a permanent cure such as male and female pattern hair loss. A treatment protocol for long term maintenance will be prescribed to suit each patient’s condition. For other treatable conditions such as hair loss after childbirth or other illnesses, maintenance treatments are usually not required after the hair has fully grown back.
